Tim lives in Shannonvale, near Port Douglas, in tropical Far North Queensland, Australia since 2005.

Prior to this Tim lived in London and worked for 20 years as an Art Director in the UK film and television industry. He has studied Fine Art in the UK and Holland to masters degree and since in Australia has immersed himself in the art practices: designing interiors, as the Art Coordinator and Gallery Manager at the Mossman Gorge Centre, as an event coordinator and university lecturer and as the Arts and Culture Officer at Douglas Shire Council.

Since 2011, Tim has exhibited in Cairns, Brisbane, Gympie, Hinchinbrook, Texas, Port Douglas, Mossman, Coffs Harbour, Atherton and Chinchilla. His work mediums are paint, digital and video. In 2014 Tim was a finalist in the Queensland Regional Arts Awards (touring exhibition 'Vital Signs'), and in 2023 he was a finalist in STILL: The National Still Life Awards, Yarrila Art Gallery, Coffs Harbour.

Ellis' multi-media projects and solo exhibitions since 2020 have gathered praise for his masterly painting and story telling, using video, digital imagery and projection art. Notable solo exhibitions are Animal Kingdom at Cairns Art Gallery (2013) and Folk Stories at Northsite Gallery, Cairns (2020). He is also a participant and co-ordinator for the Call Of The Running Tide environmental art events.

In 2023, Ellis presented MANnerisms at Tanks Arts Centre, Cairns; a multi-media experience that depictes a masculine world. As much a celebration, also a wondering exploration; a delve into identity and personality, for an insight into the regional male.

In 2025, Ellis presents a new collection of paintings and digital media at the Cairns Art Gallery, entitled Glimpses; visually arresting moments in time captured on canvas.
